Dawan Stanford, JD, PhD is the founding Design Director at the Education Design Lab, a higher-education innovation nonprofit. Since helping launch the Lab in 2013, Dr. Stanford has been shaping and reshaping a mix of design-based methods to understand and pursue opportunities that better serve learners in higher education.
Working with universities, nonprofits, businesses, entrepreneurs, and foundations, Dr. Stanford has framed learner opportunities as design challenges and developed experiences for co-creating new education models. Dr. Stanford has worked closely with faculty, students, and administrators on challenges connected to traditional and non-traditional higher education learning journeys. Design research, design challenges, workshops, innovation facilitation methods, prototyping, and visual ideation tools are a few tactical ways Dr. Stanford has worked to serve students and faculty at universities across the country.
Since 2008, Dr. Stanford has owned and operated Fluid Hive, a design-driven innovation studio, where he combines design, design thinking, research, and his Silicon Valley and international business experience. Fluid Hive helps organizations to see, solve and act on challenges that are complex, dynamic, and interconnected using design-driven innovation processes, methods and mindsets. This work fuels his exploration of how we might make design-driven innovation more accessible, learnable, reliable, and measurable.
